UFO SIGHTINGS A BIG MYSTERY TO AUTHORITIES ---------- Trentonian, Trenton, N.J. 8-22-88 ---------- By Bernard Colan ----------
Some local citizens jumped the gun on the commemorations of the War of the Worlds broadcast of 1938 last night as a spate of sky sightings were reported around 8:30 p.m. One Trenton resident said the yellowish glowing object was moving "faster than any airplane" in front of a dark vapor trail. A Hamilton grandmother reported seeing a "bright oblong shape" with three other adults and a bunch of kids. Florence Township police said they had word of additional sightings in Burlington and Gloucester counties. Trenton police had no reports of mysterious sightings but suggested reports may have been inspired by fireworks in West Windsor. Police in West Windsor acknowledged there was a concert there last night but Newell Benedict, chairman of the recreation commission, said the only fireworks last night were in the music.
